Bonnie Lewin exemplified being a friend of Somerset Elementary more than any other person we know. She committed her energy, her sharp intellect, her love, and her grace, to making Somerset Elementary the school that our community treasures and that she felt it so richly deserved. Our school is more than a beautiful building or a safe place; it exists to educate and prepare children as lifetime learners and as world citizens. With her leadership, Bonnie literally influenced the lives of thousands of children.
The Somerset Back to School Classic 8K and Fun Run was just one of the ways Bonnie exerted such influence. As our Title Sponsor for nearly a decade, Bonnie provided funds to the Somerset PTA for our teachers and kids and a one-of-a-kind community experience evolved out of "race day." Bonnie passed away from a tragic accident in May 2014. We are forever indebted to Bonnie Lewin and her family and we honor her by retiring race bib #1 and naming the race in her memory.
