Aaron Lee Burros spent the majority of his formative years in Houston, Texas. In 2009, he graduated from The College of Biblical Studies. At nearly 400 lbs and unhappy with his health and appearance, he turned to running and lost almost 100 lbs his first year and 75 lbs over the next 4 years. He became a promising professional trail runner. While preparing to run a 50-mile ultramarathon in 2015, Aaron was the victim of a workplace mass shooting. He fought to stay alive after being shot 5 times while saving his coworkers' lives. As the blood oozed from his body, he saw his future jeopardized. Although he survived by a mere millimeter, a bullet remained buried in his right glute muscle and debilitating PTSD stalked him forever. What was he to do? How could he avoid living a minimal life, living only to avoid the shooters still intent on murdering him?
After grueling physical and emotional therapy, but still feeling the pain, he realized he had to reshape his life. He returned to running in 2019 and completed several marathons. But he wanted to do more. To save himself, he reached out to help others on the marathon courses. In January 2021,he undertook an audacious challenge. Under the handle #RunningServant, he began a quest to run 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 weeks to celebrate his 50th birthday. He succeeded, raising tens of thousands of dollars for charities since, including St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
