Half Marathon

Charity race for girls' education in Kenya and Nepal

  • With sincere regret, we must inform you that the Georgetown Half Marathon scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2025, will not take place.

  • Because of the federal government shutdown, National Park Service sites—including the C&O Canal and Fletcher’s Cove, our permitted race location—are closed. These closures also prevent the on-site safety support we require (permits, park operations, and EMT coordination). As a result, we cannot safely or legally stage the event this weekend.

  • We are actively working with the National Park Service to reschedule the Georgetown Half as soon as possible. We don’t have a new date yet, but we will update you as soon as we do.

  • No action is required from you today. If you made travel or lodging plans, please adjust them as needed. We have made all expense outlays for this race so we will need to reschedule and will follow up with new updates soon!

  • We are grateful for your training, patience, and support of this great running community. Canceling is the last thing we wanted, and we’re determined to deliver a successful Georgetown Half Marathon in 2025 once the government is reopened and it’s safe and permitted.

  • Thank you for understanding during this unfortunate situation.

  • With grateful appreciation,

  • The Georgetown Half Marathon Team

  • Timing System:
    • We use Webscorer® to time the race and record your finish and instantly send your results to you by email with a link to the on-line resutls updated every 30 seconds
    • After our race starts, open our Webscorer results page and click "Georgetown Half Marathon"
    • We will know the exact URL of the results one week before the race

    • To make it work, please read and follow these instructions:
    • Stapled to the back of your bib number, you see a 3"x5" plastic waterproof envelope containing your RFID timing chip corresponding to your bib number
    • The plastic envelope is firmly stapled to the bib number, and the envelope is zipped tight to be waterproof
    • The timing chips are NOT disposable -- they cost us about $3.00 assembled
    • The waterproof envelope is designed for re-use at every SHF race every year
    • If you pick up your bib number but not run the race, please mail the envelope back to SHF. The envelope contains a mailing label.
    • You may keep the BIB but please return the CHIP intact
    • Before and during the race, please do not remove the chip from its envelope
    • Please do not detach the envelope from your bib number
    • The envelope should stay safe on the back of your bib number, but if the envelope slips off during the race, please pick it up off the ground and convey it to the finish line
    • Please don't lose it, please don't remove it from the envelope stapled the name tag,
    •     don't tear it off to check your bag, don't leave in your car
    • In other words, if you don't have your chip intact at the finish line,
    •     we can't score you, and you won't be in the results
    • Immediately after you finish the race, please detach your name tag WITH THE ENVELOPE AND CHIP INTACT and hand it to the volunteer at the finish line
    • NO CHIP, NO TIME

    • You may contact us with questions or hire us for RFID timing for your own races -- call Jay at 703-505-3567
  • Avoid extra charges!
